Workers' Compensation

If you are injured at work, usually the only claim you can bring against your employer is a workers' compensation claim.

If you suffer a repetitive trauma injury from work - like operating a keyboard and getting carpal tunnel syndrome or injuring your shoulder from using a jackhammer all day - usually the only claim you can bring against your employer is a workers' compensation claim.

If you become sick as a result of work – for example from an exposure to chemicals or mold in the work place - usually the only claim you can bring against your employer is a workers' compensation claim.

If you die as a result of a work related injury usually the only claim your family can bring against your employer is a workers' compensation claim.

In Connecticut employers are required to have insurance to pay for work related injuries suffered by their employees. This insurance will pay for your medical bills and pay you a percentage of your wages while you are out of work. If you suffer a permanent injury or an impairment to your earning capacity, you will be entitled to additional benefits. Often, insurance companies will pay you a settlement in a workers' compensation claim to avoid the risk of you making additional claims in the future.

Workers' compensation is a "no fault system." This means that workers will receive benefits even if the injury was their fault or even if they cannot prove the injury was someone else's fault.

Usually, you only have one year to file a workers' compensation claim. Once the claim is filed your employer's insurance company will hire a lawyer to fight your claim. If the insurance company has a lawyer ready to fight your claim, don't you think you should have one to fight for you too?

We are considered by many of our peers to be some of the most experienced and successful workers' compensation lawyers in Connecticut.

When you are injured at work you may have other claims, besides a workers' compensation claim. What separates us from other workers' compensation lawyers is that we will try to help you with all your claims. These other claims include claims for:

  • Unemployment benefits
  • Long term or short term disability benefits
  • Pensions (regular or disability)
  • Job retraining
  • Social Security Disability

Many lawyers won't help you with these other claims because they think they won't make money on them. We think it's only fair to help you out with any other information that might benefit you and we know how and when to get you started with these other claims. If any of these other claims also involves going to court or some other type of formal hearing, don't worry – we will go with you.

Given our experience, we can advise you as to how these other claims affect each other so that you can receive all the benefits that you deserve.
